The meal serves 6-8 people."Add some fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice, and you're set," explains owner LouAnn Wukitsch.

ISRI Convention: Fit to be Shred

In some cases, mills can charge their furnaces with just two charge buckets full of shred versus having to make three trips with blended grades.

The disadvantages of using 100 percent shredded scrap, though, can include a higher feedstock cost and chemistry that can vary and be off-spec in the amounts of tramp elements such as copper and tin.

One of the worlds largest-volume scrap buyers, John Harris of Mittal Steel Co., said North American shred is a good feedstock, especially if it is run through a bulk analyzer that can accurately portray the chemistry. We want to know what the [chemistry] is; we have to know, said Harris.

Harris said that he foresees steel mills continuing to insist on such pre-analyzing, as well as seeing mills remain involved in producing or procuring scrap alternatives that can serve as our control on chemistry.

Area bed & breakfasts dwindling

The number of bed and breakfasts in Marietta is shrinking, a trend that is reflected around the Buckeye State.

Its hard work, said Judy Grize, who, with her husband, Doug, owns The House on Harmar Hill Bed and Breakfast, 300 Bellevue St. You live in a fish bowl. We do all week.

The elegant and romantic Victorian mansion, one of only two bed and breakfasts within the city limits, is now for sale. Grize is hoping new owners will continue the B&B tradition there.

There are currently 200 B&Bs in Ohio, but in 2000 there were 320.

The life span of an innkeeper is usually about five to seven years before they burn out or retire, said Alicia LeMasters, membership director of the Ohio Bed and Breakfast Association, based in Columbus. Our innkeepers are generally older.

How do you top this? Try a Crash Landing

The indecisive might not do well at Crash Landing Pizza. At this carry-out pizza joint, there's no "Crash Landing special" or other combinations to guide your pizza path.

You choose your own topping adventure. But picking what lands on your pizza is the only complicated element of ordering here, since Crash Landing specializes in pizza alone. With gourmet toppings that extend beyond traditional pepperoni and Italian sausage — options like sun-dried tomatoes, Bulgarian feta and asparagus — suddenly picking your own sounds pretty good.

Crash Landing, located in the eastern side of Ballard known as West Woodland, has the aura of a college pizza joint, with a graffitied counter, pizza slices warming under a heat lamp, and half a rocket jutting out from one shiny red wall.
