| Art of spanking at the sex academy
Step off the streets of Soho, down a flight of stairs where the warm, glowing walls whisper sweet nothings to you and enter Amora, London's first permanent sex exhibition. Pay your £12 (£15 in the evening) and learn about the mechanics of the perfect kiss, the biology of an orgasm, and how hard to spank so it hurts. But despite its location in the basement of the tourist trap the Trocadero, its connections with Madame Tussauds, and the stag nights which will inevitably frequent it, Amora is billing itself as an "academy for sex and relationships," with a mission to educate the public in the ways of love. .
Come On, Have a Taste!
There is only one day left to send your palate off to paradise, and Saturday is the ticket as the Taste of Vail continues with cooking, wine seminars and the Grand Tasting and Dance. The Taste hit turbo drive on Friday with the Mountaintop picnic, in which dozens of the valley’s most exquisite restaurants offered exotic and delicious dishes and wineries handed out samples of their most coveted reserves. The desserts topped the treat totem for us. Valley Vibrations
My electric bass teacher, Art Rodriguez, said something one night in class that I thought was inspirational. We were listening to different versions of songs performed by various groups over the years and he said, "That's what's fun about music - you can always take it and make it your own." Bet he didn't realize I was writing it down. That's what you get when there's a reporter in the group. We can all benefit from taking classes and lessons, but if they're not available or too difficult for us to do at certain times in our lives, it's not the end of the world. I had a nice conversation with two Tai Chi instructors this week, one who had 12 years of instruction from the same teacher and the other who had eight months of instruction, moved and found his only way of learning was through books, until he finally found a new mentor years later.
Warmer, greener days to follow April showers
It's a bit late for St. Patrick's Day, but abundant sunshine forecast for this week, coming on the heels of a couple of late-April showers, should soon give county hillsides a green sheen. National Weather Service forecaster Rob Balfour said the rains, combined with a string of warm, sunny days, should be sufficient to get a new crop of wild grass growing. After a long stretch of below-normal temperatures around the county, warming is expected today and tomorrow. Highs in the inland valleys are forecast to reach the mid-70s to low 80s. No rain is in the forecast for the next seven days. Rainfall late Sunday night and early Monday averaged about a tenth of an inch around the county. Lindbergh Field, San Diego's official weather station, recorded 0.08 of an inch.
Homemade pet food doggone good
About to celebrate her eighth year of producing custom-made food and treats for dogs and cats, Terri Voss said she's never seen such concern among the general public for what exactly goes into pet food. "There have been other pet food recalls, (but) this one's pretty big," said Voss, remarking that the phone at Trs Bone Bakery & Boutique in Mundelein has been "ringing off the hook" since last month's recall of Menu Foods Inc. products. .
