Gramercy Tavern
Recently, however, Anthony took over the kitchen at Gramercy Tavern (he replaced the divalike Tom Colicchio), and now, for the first time, he is conducting his own show on a big-city stage. With its calibrated, Pottery Barn-style dcor (twiggy flower arrangements; bright, Martha Stewart-type farmhouse murals; carefully stacked piles of wood along the walls), Gramercy Tavern has always been the most self-consciously twee of Danny Meyer's restaurants. In recent years, with Colicchio off starting restaurants and starring in a TV show, the cooking, especially in the main dining room, has been conspicuously adrift. But Anthony is an expert in the delicate arts of poaching and braising, and over the last several months, he has revamped the menu, filling it with subtle, slightly bucolic creations like lightly smoked lobster (decked with seasonal springtime ramps), crispy poached barnyard chicken, and delicious soups made with parsnips and strips of bacon or chunks of creamy heirloom cauliflower.

Pet food issue started months ago
Area pet owners are facing a tough, sometimes deadly, situation. But now all they can do is react to something that could have been sitting in their pet's food dish for months."This problem probably started three or four months ago," veterinarian Kurt Erxleben said of the pet food problems that are causing serious health issues in cats and dogs. The problems have caused recalls in dozens of pet food brands. "We're getting it after the fact. It's a tough situation."Erxleben, who works at Bay Pines, Boyne City's Lake Street and Pellston veterinary clinics, believes he has seen the results of contaminated pet food first hand. At least 33 cats and 13 dogs in the state that ate recalled pet food have died from suspected cases of kidney disease, according to the survey by the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association.
Incidents reported by Golden Police
The report said an aroma of alcohol was present and when the officer asked how much the driver had to drink, he said, "One to two beers at the casinos." When asked again how much he had to drink, he said, "Two to three beers at the tournament." He was arrested for investigation of DUI and taken to the Golden Police Department before being released to a sober party. According to a phone report March 19 at 5:30 p.m., a student at Golden High School located at 701 24th Street said he parked his truck in the parking lot on the southeast corner of 24th and Ford streets at 7 a.m., and when he returned at lunchtime at 11:35 p.m., someone had "keyed" the sides of his truck. The report said the student said he did not know who had done the damage and didn't know anyone who is out to get him. According to the report, the parking lot where the alleged incident occurred is a private lot rented to Golden High School students.
Relearning how to look at art, with Amelia Arenas
After arriving at the museum, you pay your admission and join the line of people shuffling from one work to another. In front of each exhibit you stoop to read the accompanying wall text, and then have a brief glance at the work itself before moving on. Reaching the end of the show, you suppress a guilty feeling of relief, browse the knickknacks in the gift shop, and then enjoy a gourmet coffee in the stylish cafe. And by the time you leave, barely a word of what you read about the works remains in mind, and the pictures themselves are slipping from the memory. Hands up anyone who hasn't been guilty of this, at least sometimes. But if the last exhibition you visited didn't engage your mental faculties, console yourself with the thought that it might not be your fault.
